AI For Road Safety

National Highways are expanding a current trial of new technology that uses Artificial Intelligence (AI) to detect if motorists are breaking the law. The mobile technology can identify if motorists are wearing their seatbelts or using their mobile phones whilst behind the wheel.

Ten more police forces across the country will be using the new AI kit which is mounted to a vehicle or trailer and has multiple cameras all at different angles to record different views. The data is then processed and forwarded onto the police where appropriate action will be taken against the offending motorist.

At Lodge Automotive, we think this may act as a good deterrent as drivers are 4 times more likely to be involved in a crash if they are using their mobile phone whilst driving. Don’t say we didn’t warn you!
