CAR SERVICING AND REPAIRS

What Is a Car Service and Why Is It Important?

Car Servicing can help keep your engine healthy. Cars must be serviced on a regular basis, and they’re designed to require regular maintenance in order to stay in good working order. Changing the oil and filters at regular intervals stops dirt and dust from getting into the oily parts of the engine and causing major problems. It will also extend the engine’s life and, as a result, the vehicle’s total lifespan.

Our team of experts always conduct a complete Vehicle Health Check on your vehicle when conducting a Service, allowing us to identify any potential problems or safety concerns. This involves inspecting major components such as the brakes, suspension and exhaust system. Lodge Automotive are here to provide comprehensive car services that allow you to stay within warranty and make sure your vehicle is safe to drive.

If you own a new car, it is important to know that only by having services performed at, or before, the correct intervals will mean the manufacturer’s warranty on your new car be covered. If you service your vehicle outside of the manufacturer’s instructions, your warranty may be invalidated, leaving you responsible for the increasingly large car repair bill if anything goes wrong.

There are three different types of Car Service: Interim, Full, and Major. Each package includes everything that is in the level below with some added extras that your car will require at different stages of your ownership. The type of car servicing you need depends on how many miles you complete in a year and the level of service you had previously.

Interim Service

This is intended for high-mileage drivers who need more than one annual service (those who travel 20,000 miles or more per year). An Interim Car Service typically includes an oil change, an oil filter change and a visual inspection of the vehicle’s major components, such as the lights, tyres and wipers.

Full Service

A Full Service is usually recommended every 12 months or 12,000 miles, whichever comes first. It is ideal for drivers doing lower annual mileages who will only have their car serviced once a year. It includes a wider range of checks and service replacement parts in addition to those carried out during an Interim Service. Below is a list of jobs that are normally carried out, but not strictly limited to:

Air filter change

Fuel Filter Change for Petrol and Diesel

Cabin Filter Change

Oil Filter Change

Change Spark Plugs for Petrol Vehicles

Full Suspension Check

Major Service

A Major Service is recommended every 24 months or 24,000 miles. If your last annual service was a Full Service, your car should have a major service next. It is the most comprehensive service package available that includes everything from a Full Service in addition to parts that are recommended for replacement every two years, including the brake fluid and cabin filter/s.

Brake fluid is hydroscopic which means it absorbs water and becomes contaminated over time, making the brakes less effective meaning the car will take longer to stop. Obviously, this could have severe implications on the road. Therefore, by having a Major Service every 2 years (as recommended) you will ensure that your braking system is safe and sound.
