At Lodge Automotive, we were saddened to learn that car theft is on the increase with more than 900 vehicles reported stolen every week in the UK. Last year, a whopping 48,500 vehicles were reported stolen and the most popular motors included the Ford Fiesta and Vauxhall Corsa. Higher-value vehicles such as Range Rovers, Mercedes-Benz and BMWs were also popular with criminals however, many more were recovered due to the vehicles’ tracking devices. 

 

The increase has been largely blamed on the pandemic. It has been reported that due to the pandemic, there has been a lack of car parts available for new car manufacturing,  resulting in vehicles being stolen and stripped back so their expensive parts can be sold to meet higher demand. 

 

Did you know, the increase in car thefts creates a higher risk to anyone buying a vehicle? On average, there are 30 vehicles identified as stolen every day by ‘used car history checks’.
