Driving Law Updates

Driving Law Updates

At Lodge Automotive, we find it hard keeping track of new driving laws that can come into force at any time. So, to help you out, we thought we’d share some of the most important driving law changes that motorists need to be aware of now.

Ring, Ring!
If you use your phone whilst driving, this even includes just touching your phone, you could be prosecuted and hit with a £200 fine and up to six points on your license. If, like us, you use your phone as a sat nav, please be aware that it must have secure hands-free access and not obstruct your view.

Vroom!
From 6th July 2022, it is now a legal requirement for all new vehicles to be fitted with speed limiting technology. But, the technology is reportedly not 100% reliable so beware. Even if your vehicle has a speed limiter fitted – which are becoming more and more popular – you are ultimately responsible if you are caught speeding.

Cough! Splutter!
There are an increasing number of low emission zones being introduced as part of the government’s air quality plan to discourage more polluting vehicles from entering specific areas in the UK. It is your responsibility to ensure you pay any charges if you enter a low emission zone and your car is deemed to be non-compliant. But, you can check your vehicle and the low emission charges at https://www.gov.uk/clean-air-zones.

Safe driving y’all!!
