Flip Flops & Bare Foot Driving

Flip Flops & Bare Foot Driving

Now the sunnier weather is upon us – hooray – we have seen many people wearing flip flops or even going bare foot. But is it illegal to drive whilst wearing flip flops or barefoot? According to the DVLA, there are no specific laws about footwear whilst driving; however, it does state that clothing and footwear should not prevent you from using the controls properly. The issue is the fact that flip flops do not have a back and could get caught underneath the pedal. Therefore, they could be considered to be an infringement of this rule. On the other hand, driving bare foot is not illegal so long as you have total control of the vehicle. If you want to be totally compliant, the most suitable footwear for driving are trainers as they have plenty of grip. Take care y’all!
