Money Saving Tips For Fuel
Money Saving Tips For Fuel
Fuel prices have been steadily rising since the beginning of the Covid pandemic. However, in the last couple of months we have since a massive hike in prices (up to 20p per litre) and currently fuel prices are at an all-time high. But why is fuel so expensive? As demand for energy has increased and the wholesale price of crude oil has continued to rise, there has been a knock-on effect at the pumps. Just as there has been a slight decrease in the price of crude oil, Russia invaded Ukraine which has led to the highest fuel prices in over 10 years. Currently, Russia is one of the biggest traders of oil in Europe and although we do not buy most of our crude oil from them, if there are global supply issues – which is likely – the wholesale price will increase further.

There are a number of ways you can conserve your petrol and it has a lot to do with how you drive your car.
1. The harder you accelerate, the more fuel you use so accelerate gently.
2. If you maintain a steady speed, you will use less fuel than if you drive with speed bursts and dips.
3. The faster you drive, the more fuel you use so try to slow down and avoid high speeds. A car travelling at 120km/h uses 20% more fuel than a car travelling at 100km/h.
4. You can conserve fuel by coasting to decelerate instead of using your brakes. By being aware of traffic ahead, you should have plenty of time to slow down by taking your foot off the accelerator and coasting to slow down.
5. Turn your engine off if you are stopped for more than 1 minute. The average 3l vehicle wastes 0.3l of fuel for every 10 minutes they are idle.
6. Don’t carry unnecessary weight in your vehicle. The less your vehicle weighs, the less fuel it will use. Simple
