Potholes

Potholes Ahhhh!

According to recent data, the RAC attended a whopping 30,000 pothole-related breakdowns last year which is an increase of 33% on previous years. Sadly, with the cold weather upon us, the situation is likely to get worse before it gets better. That is because potholes are created when surface water freezes and expands.

It is the responsibility of local councils to maintain our roads but funding has been tight in recent years. However, it has been reported the government has committed more money to local councils and we hope some of this money will be earmarked for improving our highways.

On a more positive note, the RAC has joined forces with a company called Metricell. Metricell encourages drivers to use a free mobile app called Stan to report on the condition of our roads in real time. The apps AI technology can detect up to 40 different defects and its data will form a road map of surface issues that can be accessed via the RAC and Stan website. So, if you’re planning a long trip, check them out. Take care!
