SELF dRIVE cARS

Self Drive Cars

May 2024

In the House of Commons, the introduction of self-driving cars onto UK roads took a massive leap forwards as it was met with an unopposed third reading meaning it could soon be law. The Automated Vehicles Bill, which has always been supported by the House of Lords, aims to outline the framework for the safe introduction of self-driving vehicles onto our roads.

The transport secretary, Mark Harper, previously stated that he believed autonomous cars would be used on our roads as early as 2026. Part of his speech in the Commons included more details of the strategy and the fact that this new industry would create more jobs and lead to much safer roads.

The next step involves some amendments to the Bill and further consideration by members of the Commons before it is cleared by parliament. So, watch this space.
