Who Needs a Map?

Sat Nav:  a system of computers and satellites used in vehicles and other places to tell you where something is, where you are, or how to get to a place. So, now we know what they are, hands up if you have ever used a sat nav in your vehicle. Yep. At Lodge Automotive, we have too. Sat navs are great at helping drivers find the quickest route to a destination, even avoiding major incidents and road works on the way. But, it turns out that not everyone agrees. There are reports that local neighbourhoods have been plagued with congestion due to drivers being diverted along residential streets that are not designed to cope with huge amounts of traffic. Department for Transport (DfT) data suggests there has been an increase in traffic along residential streets of over 70% with a significant portion being blamed on the use of sat navs. In response, sat nav companies, including leading brands such as TomTom have stated that work to alter algoritms was at the planning stages and that more would be done to protect people from the noise and emissions of heavy traffic in their neighbourhoods.
